I live in Clarksville, IN, which is just across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. I design and sell jewelry and jewelry making items, as well as teaching many of the crafts involved. I'm now also looking into interent marketing as a more consistent (and larger) source of income.
In addition to having one of the greatest kids around, I'm also Passionate about Politics, Turned on by Teaching, Joyous over making Jewelry, Bonkers over Books, Mellowed by Music, Pleased by Poetry, Tempted by Travel and not aShamed to Share Life Lessons.
I'm Head over Heels about Heinlein (Robert A.), Bowled over by Bradley (Marion Zimmer), Amazed by McCaffrey (Anne), Krazy over Kurtz (Katherine), Happy with Hailey (Arthur)
Classical to Hard Rock and (al)most everything in between.
Gone With the Wind, the '39 version of Wuthering Heights, Blazing Saddles, Gibson's Hamlet, The Sting, Hunt for Red October, Top Gun, Unforgiven
If in music you like both Tchaikovsky and Queen,
Gershwin, Don Henley and Don McLean.
Books by Heinlein and Herbert and Marion Zimmer Bradley,
Tom Clancy, Arthur Hailey, and Anne McCaffrey.
Debating the meaning of Constitutional bounds
and carrying a gun with a full load of rounds.
Racing a car, coming up with a poem,
writing a program and designing a home.
Have you seen this country, the high and the low?
Do you know which direction you want your life to go?
If you've room for a friend, a partner, or more,
let's get together and open the door.
Now that my son is in college and married I decided it was time to get my own life moving again. I'm looking for people to be friends with and hopefully best friends and more with one. I don't want to rush into a heavy emotional relationship though. I would rather that it grows naturally out of a deep friendship than to plunge into something only to find that there's nothing to talk about the next morning.
Politically, I'm a Libertarian. I am very interested in the intertwining fields of politics, philosophy, sociology, and economics and have run for the US House of Representatives, 9th District IN twice as the Libertarian candidate. I like to understand where the ideas came from which lead me to a fair amount of historical research as to the the sources of the Founding Fathers' ideas to understand what they meant and what they were trying to set up and why, as well as how things have changed from then to now (a LOT).
I'm a bookworm and love science fiction and fantasy along with techno-thrillers and various assorted other, just plain well written, books.
I enjoy wargaming (from simple ones like Risk or Axis and Allies to the complex ones like 3rd Reich) although I'm rusty on them at this point.
I have a wry sense of humor, usually from word play, and I love to have reasons for laughing. I sing without thinking about it when I'm feeling good and I love to sing - hopefully not too off-key. I enjoy music with quite eclectic tastes - from classical to hard rock and even some country.
I enjoy shooting even though I have to shoot off-hand in. 22 competition.
I enjoy stock car racing, especially NASCAR - I even owned a street stock team myself for a while where I did the suspension and carburetion and even went to race some myself. I've been to races at Atlanta and the Brickyard and managed to stay in the pits through one Winston Cup race in Atlanta. Talk about power - 43 cars with 700 hp engines firing up at once just inches away. WOW!!
I did a double major in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Speed School (U of L) but a car accident a couple of years later has kept me from being able to work a full time job. I fell back on computer programming and now I'm self-employed doing jewelry creation, sales, repair and teaching.
I love to make things, from redesigning an engine to run in reverse to beaded
spiral beads. Sometimes I like making the tools to make something even more than
the making of the final item. I have the classical engineer's outlook - there's
got to be a better (faster, easier, more efficient) way.
I'm somewhat physically handicapped to the extent that I can't pick up heavy
things or stay on my feet for too long but I can usually work around it outside
of athletic activities. I'm working at getting the weight back off after being
on my back for two full months after back surgery, not to mention quitting
smoking and then the two years leading up to the surgery that I couldn't move
much more than that. I was diagnosed with diabetes in '07, which is currently
well controlled with diet and meds.
What am I looking for? (goals and beliefs - I don't expect perfection)
People who are basically nice with their heads on fairly straight.
People who can give and take, talk and listen, teach and learn, balanced.
People who are basically pleased with the direction they're going even if
they're not all the way there yet.
People who respect themselves.
People who are honest, even with themselves.
People who are responsible, who don't make promises or commitments that they
can't keep but do their best to keep those they do.
People with reasoned principles and the strength to stand up for them when
needed.
People with goals and plans to meet them.
People who like challenges but who aren't so emotionally tied up in winning that
they can't enjoy the attempt either way.
People who can look a fact in the face and accept it, whether they like it or
not.
People who are fairly intelligent and competent in many areas but aren't afraid
to admit it when they really don't know.
People whose outlook on life is usually positive.
People who can empathize with another's pain or problems without getting caught
up in it personally.
